I believe in this part of Vermont the drought is winding down. Over the past 2 months my numbers are within 0.44″ of the averages. For October my total is 5.10 inches of rain compared to the NOAA average of 4.77″. Across Windham County the monthly totals range from a low of 4.09″ to 6.73″ from the 13 CoCoRaHS observers with full data. October is the wettest month of the year followed by June from the averages.
For the year to date with 2 months to go the total is 41.06″ compared to the norm of 39.71″. More than an inch above on a dry year. I think if you go back in time 40 years or so the yearly normal was only about 40″. Every 10 years the NOAA normals or 30 year averages move up by 10 years and have been increasing.
The Brattleboro Selectboard has some typically hot-button issues on their next agenda – the solid waste contract, the FY27 budget, the quarterly fire department report, and EMS billings and collections.
You can bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation.
The Class 1 paving project is finishing up throughout downtown. Crews are working on VT 9 (Western Avenue and High Street) and will be finishing up in areas on U.S. 5 (Canal Street and Main Street). Work to be done includes hand painting (symbols, stop bars, crosswalks, etc.), sign installation, and some signal work.
The Brattleboro Human Services Committee will meet at 6:30pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room (230 Main Street, Room 211).
The Brattleboro Tree Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 4:15pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room (230 Main Street, Room 211).
The last time I checked U.S. military murderers had killed about 40 or so presumed Venezuelan drug dealers. It is not only a shocking escalation of Trump’s mania for power, but it is also one of the more immoral and illegal actions he has taken so far.
No proof has been provided by the U.S. government of what has been in these boats they have blown up. Trump wants to play with his military toys and his lust for power knows no end. Never mind the rule of any law. Never mind due process. Who needs evidence when you are building a dictatorship and flaunting domestic and international law with abandon?
The Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market has an update for all of our SNAP customers at the market. While VT is providing funds for VT SNAP beneficiaries, those funds will NOT be available until later next week.
HOWEVER, NOFA-VT has informed us that we can still distribute $20 in Crop Cash PLUS coupons for market shopping this week, Saturday, Nov. 1st to SNAP shoppers with no remaining balance on their account.
In addition, through Post Oil Solutions, we are launching a local charitable fundraising effort to “Fill the SNAP Gap.” Stay tuned for details and please do share the fundraising link when it goes live.
Big things are happening at our Boys & Girls Club here in town! Take a look and hear what an impact folks like STACY BLACKADAR have on our youth….And she shares her stories of working for the Vt. Cheese Council, Hardy Catering, and her own music venue productions. She’s an all-around dynamo!
How many hard working people in Vermont will be laid off from their jobs November 1st because the Democrats won’t vote in favor of a Bill in the U.S. Congress that continues food stamps SNAP program benefits for the poor, but raises insurance premiums for middle class people? It’s not just people who work inside grocery stores and big box stores, truck drivers are also at risk.

The temporary registration cheats me out of 2 years and 3 weeks because the temporary registration says I paid up until Nov. 6, 2025.
Summary: The committee reviewed three policies during the meeting (Gender Freedom in Schools, D15 Travel Reimbursement, and C7 Board Relations with Administrators). Gender Freedom and D15 will be sent for a first reading at the next full Board meeting on November 4. C7 remains on hold. Rebecca Olmstead was not able to attend the meeting, so Asthma Friendly Schools and E11 Federal Child Nutrition Act Wellness Policy were not reviewed; these policies will be put on the agenda for November 12.
