Twilight on the Tavern Lawn Free Concert Series – Brian Dunne Trio on Sunday, June 17

Twilight Music continues its 16th annual Twilight On The Tavern Lawn series of folk rock, world beat, rock, country, pop, Celtic, blues and bluegrass summer concerts on Sunday, June 17 with Brooklyn-based, Americana and folk singer/songwriter Brian Dunne’s guitar, piano and violin trio. The seven concert series continues every other Sunday through August 26. All concerts begin at 6:00 pm in downtown Putney on the Putney Tavern lawn (bring a lawn chair or blanket) or at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in case of rain. The series is sponsored by the Town of Putney, Green Mountain Well, Soundview Paper Company, The Putney Food Co-op, The Stockwell Brothers and many other Putney area businesses and organizations. Free Food For Children This Summer

Windham Southeast Supervisory Union is pleased to announce its continued sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided this summer to all children without charge regardless of income or residence.  Meals are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

Children and families are invited to the Kick Off Event on June 25th at Living Memorial Park Pool.  Children and adults eat for free at this event.  Lunch is from 12-1pm. Free passes to the pool will be given with the meal, so stay the afternoon to swim.

Putney Road Improvements in Brattleboro

Benefit Contra Dance for Skateboard Park on Saturday, June 16

Peter Amidon will call and the music is by “Hidden Drive” – Arthur Davis on piano, Laurie Indenbaum on fiddle and Andy Davids on accordion. The skatepark is VERY CLOSE to being able to build at Memorial Park in Brattleboro.

Vernon Launches Campaign To Save Fireworks Display

Vernon needs some money to put on the traditional fireworks display after the Town Picnic on June 30, even though the Town Meeting in March voted to appropriate funding for the event.

In the past, Vermont Yankee generously paid for the annual fireworks. But with the nuclear plant shut down, Vermont Yankee and Entergy have eliminated most of their local largesse. So at the Vernon Town Meeting in March, voters approved an appropriation of $2,000 to supplement about $3,000 that had already been raised from other sources (including generous donations from Northstar, which is planning to decommission the nuclear plant, and FirstLight, which owns the Vernon Hydroelectric Dam). The total cost for fireworks is $5,000-$6,000.

Grove Street Hydrant Installation

Beginning on Wednesday June 13, the Grove ST entrance to the Municipal Center and Vermont State Building will be closed while Utilities crews install a new hydrant in the area. During the closure, there will be signs indicating that traffic can enter the lot from the Linden ST/Main ST end. The project is anticipated to be completed by Friday June 15, including the repaving of ditches.

Elm Street Closing For Road Work

Elm ST near #15-17 will be closed on Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12 from 6:30 am – approximately 5:00 pm both days while Utilities crews work in the area.

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during the construction period. Signage will be in place to remind motorists of the road closure.
