Sometimes It Snows In April

We should probably note for the on-going record that it is currently snowing in Brattleboro, and there is close to an inch of the stuff piled up on the ground. What makes this somewhat unusual is that we’ve had almost no snow in March, the temperatures were warmer than average, and everything had melted. 

Spring was well on its way, with snowdrops, crocuses, and daffodils starting to blossom, leaves on some bushes and trees starting to bud, and birds returning from their migrations. Many humans had begun yard clean-up and spring cleaning. Now it is all put on pause until it watms back up.

I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of April 3

I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 may be reduced to a single lane intermittently, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.

Brattleboro Selectboard Agenda and Notes – April 5, 2016

Dick DeGray will be sworn-in and the Brattleboro Selectboard will be discussing next steps for the Police and Fire facilities projects at the board’s next regular meeting on Tuesday.

They will also discuss Bradley House renovations and expansion plans, the possibility of forming a Town Promotion Committee. the upcoming change to every other week trash bag collection, numerous grants, and more. You can also bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation. Watch it all on BCTV, attend in person, or read about it here after it is over.

These are my homeopathic books. Needless to say I have an abiding interest in this subject. Perhaps another time, when the vibes are less hostile, that story can be told.  It’s hard to conceive all the information contained within these pages is mass hallucination, unicorn farts, and utter bunk. 

I don’t practice homeopathy anymore actively, for me the deal-breaker was encountering the disdain, abuse, mocking harassment, even legal threats from those who choose to thwart and crush rather than consider possibilities and positives.

On Monday, April 18th, 6:00-8:00 pm Brattleboro Area Hospice will host Funerals: Traditional and Alternative. What Is Possible? The event will take place at Brew Barry Conference Rm., Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, Brattleboro, Vermont. This event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

We spend a great deal of time planning for life’s big events such as births and weddings. We consider our options and make choices for ceremonies based on what best suits our beliefs and values. Why shouldn’t we also give time to the planning of funerals?

The Refugee Crisis: How Can I Help?

The Brattleboro Area Interfaith Initiative is hosting an event to raise awareness of the plight of refugees around the world. This free public gathering will take place on April 2 at 7:00 PM at the Centre Congregational
Church, 193 Main Street, Brattleboro.

Sami Abdallah and Jennifer Silverstone from Eyes On Refugees will speak about their recent volunteer experience at refugee camps in France. They will be joined by Inga Paluch, who will give an overview of the work of Carry Me Home, a disaster relief organization based at the Centre Congregational Church. This initiative is run entirely by volunteers who collect children’s clothing, baby carriers, and small toys and ship them to refugees along the Balkan route.

Sandglass Theater’s New Visions Series presents When I Put On Your Glove
Join Sandglass in a process of transformation.

On April 1st -3rd Shoshana Bass will be performing her first work-in-progress showing of When I Put On Your Glove, which navigates the landscape of generational, artistic inheritance through puppetry, dance and spoken word. The piece explores Shoshana’s relationship to her father’s Autumn Portraits vignettes, and investigates past and present through the memories living within the puppets. Through engaging with the puppets, the piece addresses universal questions of belonging, childhood, fear of loss, and death. This piece will be presented as part of Sandglass Theater’s New Visions Series, which serves as a laboratory for new works by artists in the field of puppetry and movement-based theater.
