Free Documentary Film Screening: Standing With Standing Rock, by Director Fidel Moreno

Oscar-nominated director Fidel Moreno will present a FREE screening of his documentary work-in-progress, Standing With Standing Rock, at Brooks Memorial Library on Friday, December 8th, at 6 pm.

Standing with Standing Rock was shot on location, and chronicles the story of the protesters at Standing Rock and their connection to the history of the American Indian Movement on their treaty-given lands of the American west. It has been culled from 18 hours of interviews with 33 people at Standing Rock, including youth, mothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, First Nation people and non-Indian supporters.

Holly Jolly Gingerbread Craft Time at Brooks Memorial Library

Don’t miss this year’s Holly Jolly Gingerbread Craft Time on Saturday, December 9 at Brooks Memorial Library. Come make edible houses out of graham crackers, icing and candy. Younger kids can make edible Christmas trees from ice cream cones, frosting and candy. This year we are offering two sessions: session one runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and session two runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In order to ensure we have enough goodies for everyone, registration is strongly recommended – please contact the Children’s Room at 254-5290 x110. This event is free and donations of nonperishable food items for Project Feed the Thousands are appreciated. Children under 10 must have a responsible person with them. It’s part of their ongoing look at the proposed FY19 budget. (Don’t forget you can attend a special Saturday morning meeting to learn about all the departments, their staffing, and any proposed changes to their operations on Dec 2.)

The Brattleboro Representative Town Meeting Human Services Review Committee CHANGED THE START TIME of its meeting on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm AND THE LOCATION OF THE MEETING. The Committee will meet at the Winston Prouty Campus (formerly Austine School), 209 Austine Drive, Holton Hall, 2nd Floor, on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 7:00pm. Sandglass Theater’s Crankie Celebration

PUTNEY- A crankie is an old storytelling art form that has recently become popular again. A long illustrated scroll is wound around two spools and set into a box with a viewing window. The scroll is hand cranked, the unfolding story narrated, sung or just accompanied by music. This December Sandglass Theater is holding a crankie fundraising celebration with events including performances, a crankie building workshop and an online auction of crankies built by local artists.
