Welcome to a new way to explore Brattleboro and Downtown Brattleboro.
The office of tourism revenue is introducing new one day and annual passes in an effort to encourage people to come to Brattleboro.
The One Day Fun Pass, $46.00 (plus tax) admits one, age 10+, to Brattleboro and Downtown Brattleboro for a full day.
At 10 am on Saturday, April 6th, join your three Brattleboro State Representatives for a casual conversation about what’s been happening in Montpelier and beyond. Mollie S. Burke, Tristan Toleno, and Emily Kornheiser offer you the opportunity to speak with them directly about issues that concern you.

What better way to celebrate the coming of spring than a Bayou-themed dance party with three local dance bands! Everyone is invited on Sunday, April 7 from 5:00-8:00 pm to the Vermont Jazz Center for music hailing from the Louisiana Bayou to the streets of Brazil and from points all over the Afro-Creole culture sphere. Featured will be two of Brattleboro’s signature New Orleans roots music ensembles, Bayou X and the Celebration Brass Band, with a special guest appearance by SOVESA, the Vermont Jazz Center Samba Ensemble. The event is a benefit for the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus (and it happens to be our director, Becky Graber’s, birthday).

Next Stage is excited to present our annual online auction fundraiser for 2019! The theme this year is Bucket List Adventures and 100% the funds raised through your generous participation in the auction will be deployed to offset direct costs of Next Stage programming.
Each of the items in this year’s auction are experiential in nature, and include incredible travel opportunities, a private airplane flight through the West River valley, murder-mystery overnight for 8 at Naulakha, a private catered gourmet meal, a brand new mountain bike with guided tour, and much more!
The Brattleboro VFW located at 40 Black Mountain Road is open to the public for lunch and breakfast this Saturday. Lunch is served Mon-Fri from 11:30 – 1:30. The newly-formed Starr-led Selectboard will have their first regular meeting Tuesday evening. They’ll hold it right after their first Executive Session, which comes right after their first committee candidate interviews.
It won’t all be start-up stuff, though they will review Rules of Conduct and choose committees to attend. Red Clover Commons 2 will be applying for a grant, Representative Town Meeting items will be reviewed, historical markers, loans and knotweed will be discussed, and a new conflict of interest policy will be considered for adoption. You can, as always, bring up other items during public participation.
The Brattleboro Energy Committee will meet on Monday, April 1, 2019, at 5:00pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
The Brattleboro Tree Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at 6:30pm in the Community Meeting Room at the Brattleboro Food Co-Op, located at 2 Main Street.
The Brattleboro ADA Advisory Committee will meet on Friday, April 5, 2019, at 9:00am in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center
As part of National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Brattleboro VA Community Outreach Clinic will honor Vietnam War Veterans with refreshments on March 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All Vietnam War veterans are warmly invited to attend.

Next Stage Arts Project will host its annual Gala Benefit Dance Party, to benefit Next Stage programming, featuring the Afro-Celtic Funk band Soulsha on Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 pm. The party will include an online auction, great food and a beer and wine cash bar. Ticket price includes dinner by Smokin’ Bowls.
Soulsha is a party, a revolution, and an adventure through different traditions. It brings together some of Boston’s top musicians in Scottish, West African and Funk music to create a sound you won’t find anywhere else on the planet Soulful call and response singing, masterful improvisation, traditional Sengalese and Scottish dancing and incredible energy make every Soulsha show and unforgettable live experience.
Sandglass Theater’s beloved Winter Sunshine series concludes the 12th season of family puppet shows with The Pirate, The Princess and The Pea by Crabgrass Puppet Theatre on Saturday March 30th at 11 am and 2 pm at Sandglass Theater.
A special event for the whole family, Winter Sunshine is an experience unique to this area. Munch on cookies and sip Burdick’s hot chocolate in the lobby as you peruse the Sandglass gift shop, and then cozy in the theater for a colorful adventure.
We are having a party, and you are invited. We will be drinking, a lot, at 118 Elliot on May Day. A lot of mocktails that is. But right now, we are looking for more local people to sign up for our Alcohol Free April.

I ran into a friend the other day, and the first words out of his mouth were “Since when did the Democratic party become Socialist?” My short answer was — they haven’t. They’re they same old corporatist, center-right party they’ve been for years. It’s just that Republicans, seizing on the rhetoric of Bernie Sanders and a few others, have decided that socialism is the Democrats’ Achilles heel and so they’re making a big issue of it. Oddly enough, however, this could turn out to be a good thing. By drawing attention to it, they’ve opened a debate that’s been dormant for decades.
Brattleboro Representatives are holding their Representative Town Meeting. The crowd is slowly gathering at the gym, where those elected will be talking town and school business for most of the day. Will they approve an extra 1% local option tax? Will there be surprises, twists, and turns? We will find out.
The Town portion of business comes first, and there are a number of preliminary formalities to endure before actual business begins.

The Vermont Jazz Center welcomes Helen Sung and celebrates her Chamber Music America sponsored suite, “Sung With Words” on Saturday, March 30th at 8:00 PM at the Vermont Jazz Center. This show is a rescheduled date from a snowed out event on January 19, 2019. The pianist/composer will present a project that embodies the alliance of poetry and jazz and then takes it to new places. The performers in the octet are Helen Sung (piano and composition), Jason Palmer (trumpet), John Ellis (woodwinds), Charenée Wade and Carolyn Leonhart (vocals), Rick Rosato (bass), Adam Cruz (drums) and Samuel Torres (percussion).
