Selectboard Meeting Notes – Liquor Licenses and Addiction Recovery Programs
The Brattleboro Selectboard handed out annual liquor licenses then held an extended discussion about COSU, a collaborative community project to tear down silos and create connections between addiction and recovery programs in the community.

Downtown Brattleboro Snow Removal
The Town of Brattleboro would like to remind everyone that the snow emergency ban is in effect.
Snow and ice will be removed from the streets in the downtown area this evening.
Parked vehicles in the downtown district must be removed by 11:00pm or they will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Brattleboro Presidents’ Day Closures
In observance of Presidents’ Day, all Brattleboro Town offices will be closed on Monday, February 18, 2019, with the exception of emergency services.
Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Sunday and Monday, February 17 and February 18. All other violations will be enforced.
Brooks Memorial Library will be closed on Sunday and Monday, February 17 and February 18, 2019.

It Pays To Shop Around
I blew a tail light bulb and sought to replace it. I’ve bought them before. They’re not expensive.
I went into Advance Auto Parts up on Putney Road, because it was convenient – I was already in that part of town. The clerk asked me about the car it came from, make, model, year, and then looked it up on a computer. Then he went in back and came out with two bulbs, neatly packaged in plastic.
Brattleboro Taxes and Utilities Due
The third installment of the 2018 Real Estate and Personal Property Taxeswill be due onFebruary 15th, 2019. Payments made after February 15th, 2019 will have an additional 1% interest added to the unpaid balance.
The utility billing is also due on February 15th, 2019. Payments made after February 15th, 2019 will have an additional 1% interest, as well as an 8% penalty added to the unpaid balance.
Brattleboro DPW – Downtown Water Leak
Yesterday large water leak in Downtown Brattleboro caused a considerable amountof damage to sidewalk and traffic island at the intersection of Main Street and High Street. Water service and electrical power were turned off for several hours until Utilities Crews contained the leak. The Utilities Crew finished the emergency repair around three o’clock this morning.
The crew discovered a broken sprinkler valve to 167 Main Street was the cause of the leak. The Utilities Division estimates approximately 160,000 gallons of water was discharge from the broken sprinkler valve.
Selectboard Meeting Notes – Groundworks Campus
The Brattleboro Selectboard helped Groundworks take a step forward with a shelter/campus project. Their approval came after a passionate plea by a next door neighbor to preserve the building.
The meeting seemed a bit like an enjoyable poetry reading at times, with ideas and words flowing back and forth. Everyone caught the groove, and they wrapped up with lots of time to settle in for the State off the Union address.
Brattleboro Selectboard Candidates’ Forum on Feb. 13
Brattleboro Community Television will team up with The Commons to present a Selectboard candidates’ forum on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., at the Brattleboro Selectboard Room on the second floor of the Municipal Center, 230 Main Street. The program will be broadcast live on BCTV Channel 10, and streamed live at brattleborotv.org as well as on Brattleboro Community TV’s Facebook page.

Town of Brattleboro Hazard Mitigation Plan – 2018 Progress Report
Find attached the 2018 annual progress report for the Brattleboro 2015 Local All Hazard Mitigation Plan. The report is prepared in conformance with the requirements of the town participation in the Community Rating System of the National Flood Insurance Program. CRS participation reduces flood insurance premiums by 10%.

Selectboard Meeting Notes – Representative Town Meeting Meeting Warning, and Arts Fail To Get 2%
The Brattleboro Selectboard sent an approved FY20 budget to Representative Town Meeting as part of the annual Representative Town Meeting Warning.
Representatives from the arts community, meanwhile, asked that an article requesting 2% of the Rooms & Meals tax be allocated for an Arts Fund for public arts projects, $8,424, be placed on the Representative Town Meeting Warning. The board said no, telling them it was hasty and didn’t have enough detail.
Brattleboro Selectboard Special Meeting Agenda – FY20 and 2% For The Arts
The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center. It is anticipated that the Board will enter into executive session at 6:00pm to discuss the employment or evaluation of a public officer or employee. The Board will reconvene the business meeting at 6:15pm. ASL interpreters will be available for deaf and hard-of-hearing community members.

Brattleboro Flooding
At 12:49p we received a report that there was a large ice jam on the Whetstone Brook near Village Drive and that water was coming into the trailer park. It was determined that an ice jam, approximately 200 yards in length, was diverting the water out of the brook. Eleven homes along Village & Edgewood Drives were evacuated. There were concerns that if the ice jam dislodged it would cause a dangerous, sudden increase in the water levels downstream and for this reason we did a precautionary evacuation of Glen St and Melrose Terrace.
