The Brooks Memorial Library will close at 5:00 today, Wednesday, March 7th due to the weather. The First Wednesday Lecture scheduled for this evening has been postponed until June 6th.

The Brooks Memorial Library will close at 5:00 today, Wednesday, March 7th due to the weather. The First Wednesday Lecture scheduled for this evening has been postponed until June 6th.
The board had a discussion of winter road conditions, causes of potholes, methods of repairing potholes, and specific reasons why Western Avenue has so many of them.
The board considered a letter to state education officials asking to support the results of the vote against a school district merger, as it would negatively impact Brattleboro taxes. The Brewer’s Fest permit was approved, Brattleboro Words are being explored and celebrated, and a pile of tires near the Marina is a problem for plants and animals in the vicinity.

A short agenda is in store for a Town Meeting Day Selectboard meeting, to be held at the Library as to accomodate voters at the Municipal Center.
The Brattleboro Energy Committee will meet on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 5:00pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
The next meeting of the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will be held on Thursday, March 8th
at 7:00 PM in the Hayes Court Community Room on Garfield Drive (just west of the West Brattleboro Post Office).
The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special meeting on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:00am in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center. It is anticipated that the Board will enter into executive session at 11:00am to discuss labor relations agreements with employees. No further business will be conducted.
On Wednesday, February 28 and Thursday, March 1, from 9:00am -2:30pm, the Department of Public Works will have crews working on Western Avenue to repair potholes. On Wednesday the crews will be working on the east bound lane between Academy School and the I91 overpass. On Thursday, the crews will work on the west bound lane between the I91 overpass and Academy School. There will be several crews and large equipment in the roadway and police officers will be in the area for traffic control. The public should expect delays and avoid the area during those dates and times if possible.
The Brattleboro Board of Civil Authorities will meet in the Hanna Cosman Room of the Municipal Center on Thursday, March 1 at 3:00 PM to hear property tax exemption appeals.

The Brattleboro Citizen Police Communications Committee (CPCC) will meet on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 5:30pm in the meeting room at Brooks Memorial Library.
The Brattleboro Selectboard held a meeting full of exciting twists and turns. From a sudden interest in municipal broadband to a re-examination of requiring write-in candidates to pre-register, the meeting was full of surprises.
There were the scheduled issues as well with liquor licenses renewed, an animal control officer appointed, grants accepted, and so on, but even these provided curious side paths. Consider, for example, that the board decided to willingly challenge what they felt was an unfair ordinance, all in the name of compassion. Or the matter of the fly in need of rescue… In short, it was an eventful meeting.
Last night on AM talk radio I heard that Canadians had built a huge marijuana grow operation the size of 23 football fields. Today, I checked the internet news. Well, God Bless our relatives and neighbors to the north, they have gone all out! This gave me another idea: why don’t we, the Americans, apply ahead of time for Federal Farm Subsidies, because naturally marijuana will be legal soon under federal laws in the United States of America.
The Town of Brattleboro would like to remind everyone that the snow emergency ban is in effect.
Remember the news about the $2.3 million pollution control grant? At their next regular meeting, the Brattleboro Selectboard will accept and appropriate those funds for reducing the debt on the waste water treatment facility.
The Brattleboro Representative Town Meeting Finance Committee will meet on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 5:30pm in the Brew Barry Conference Room #2 at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
