The Brattleboro Selectboard heard sobering news about rental housing for low income citizens at Tuesday’s meeting. Section 8 funds are threatened, said the Brattleboro Housing Authority, which could impact residents and landlords alike.

The board also heard about the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect expected to start eating our ash trees in the near future if action isn’t taken soon. The board discussed bonding, budgets, project architects, and whether it was a good idea to serve liquor outdoors in Harmony Lot.

The Brooks House loan will be on Tuesday night’s Selectboard Agenda. The board will also hear about bonding options, invasive insects, retaining walls, online maps, and more. You can bring up other items that aren’t on the agenda during Public Participation.

Attend the Brattleboro Selectboard meeting Tuesday at the Municipal Center and learn about bonding options for the Poilice Fire facilities project, refinancing of the Honeywell energy project, options for compressor replacement at the skating rink, and grants to improve the intersection at Union Hill and Western Avenue.

The police will request a mobile data terminal to help catch terrorists, and to be used in conjunction with the license plate reader recently acquired via Homeland Security funding. Lacking two members, the Brattleboro Selectboard took up a relatively light agenda in their absence. A liquor license was approved for The Tavern, Selectboard goals were approved, and new members were appointed to town committees.

Town Manager Barb Sondag took advantage of the reduced work load for the meeting and took time to educate new board members, and the public, about budgets, committees, and other various reports that Selectboard members receive.

The class was short but informative, and the meeting’s business was done within an hour.

The Brattleboro Selectboard will adopt their annual goals at the next regular Tuesday meeting at the Municipal Center on Main Street. They’ll also take up committee appointments and vacancies, hear about new ownership of the Colonial Motel, get the latest on the Waste Water Treatment Plant Project, and revisit the decision to allow a Selectboard member voting rights on a committee.
