Brattleboro Time Trade is having a huge tag sale tomorrow, Sunday, at 8AM at the Centre Congregational Church on Main St. I can presonally attest to the fact that there is A TON of stuff for sale, especially books, but lots of other things as well. So come on down!

Hunting for Beauty, and Finding It Here

To those of you fellow citizens who awoke to a grey sky this morning. . .

if you had been up at 5:30, you would have seen the glorious sky known as the “pink – blue sky” to the east, above Wantastiquet.

It only lasts a short time, but it is a good sight for the eyes that have just come out of the dark and from sleep into the day.

It also reminds me of an idea I had for a photo excursion. In the winter, I frequently suffer from the blahs; the dark crowds in on me, and the cold saps me some. I have taken to going out, when I am in a bad mood, and trying to find beauty. Just the activity of trying to find moments and scenes of beauty, is restorative to my feeling of well being.

July 31st – SeVWA’s Fourth River Monitoring Day of the 2013 Season

Southeastern Vermont Watershed Alliance’s(SeVWA’s) water quality monitoring program was begun about 10 years ago. At that time, the organization was known as West River Watershed Alliance (WRWA).The 2013 river and stream monitoring program began on Wednesday, June 19th and this past Wednesday was SeVWA’s fourth 2013 river sampling day.

If you haven’t seen and heard the English Band Mumford and Sons perform you’re in for a treat. If you have, this is among their best performances. Mumford and Sons came into my life with their first Top 40 single, “Little Lion Man” from their debut album, “Sigh No More”. The album became a hot seller on the success of that first single and the band was launched worldwide. They went on to win Grammy nominations, and both the ARIA Music Award for Most Popular International Artists and  the Brit Award for Best British Album, 2011. An auspicious beginning.

CRVBL Playoff Matchups At Stake In Final Regular Season Weekend

The Connecticut River Valley Baseball League wraps up the 2013 regular season this weekend with all eight adult town teams in action with playoff seedings and matchups at stake. The action begins on Friday evening at 6:30 in Claremont as the defending league champion Cardinals host the Walpole Wild Blue. The two teams are currently tied for second place with records of 8 wins and four losses. Sunday morning at 10, the Putney Fossils and Brattleboro River Rats meet at Dummerston Field, and a win for Putney could move them ahead of the Newport Polar Bears in the playoff seeding. The regular season wraps up with a pair of games at 11 a.m. Sunday as Claremont hosts the Sunapee Old Lakers at Barnes Park while the Keene Black Dawgs take on Walpole at Keene State College.

My mission is awareness, critical thinking, free speech and some personal ownership for the world we live in. BMH Hires New Finance Director

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital official announced they have hired Bob Rovella to be the new Director of Finance.

Rovella joins BMH after serving as Director of Finance at Central Vermont Medical Center in Barre, Vermont. Previously, he has held similar positions at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Massachusetts and Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, New Hampshire. Rovella has an MBA from the UMASS Isenberg School of Business and a BS in Accounting and Business Administration from Connecticut State University.

Harmony Lot Tunnel Will Be Closing

The Town of Brattleboro has been notified by representatives of Bread Loaf Construction, working on behalf of Mesabi Inc, that the Harmony Lot underpass will be closed to public access on August 6, 2013 at 6:00am. The closing is necessary to maintain public safety during the yearlong redevelopment of the Brooks House. It is anticipated that the underpass will be closed for the duration of the project.

Winter Farmers’ Market – Call for Vendors for 2013/2014

Vendor applications are now being accepted for the eighth season of the Winter Farmers’ Market which will again be held at the River Garden in the heart of Brattleboro, VT. Space for new vendors is limited but interested parties are encouraged to submit an application prior to the September 1 deadline.

The Winter Market opens on November 2 for the 2013/2014 season and will be open every Saturday through March 29, 2014 for a total of 22 markets. The regular market hours for the Winter Farmers’ Market will be 10 am to 2 pm with hours extended to 3 pm for the markets between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Dummerston Tag Sale

The Dummerston Community Center will hold a tag/rummage sale on Saturday, August 10th, from 9-noon.
Items for sale include clothing, furniture, games, books, toys, kitchenware and much more.
Coffee and Lester’s donuts will also be for sale. 
The sale will benefit the Dummerston Community Center’s operating and maintenance costs.
