Your Scariest Horror Movie Rec?

Okay, folks. I love horror movies and am hoping to see some recommendations that I don’t know of already. Personally, the gore and torture films aren’t what I consider scary horror. I’m talking about things that fill you with dread, are tense and leave indelible impressions. For instance… after seeing the Blair Witch Project I couldn’t get the sight of the guy standing in the basement corner out of my mind. Creepy is much more insidious than slash.

So please, if you’ve a mind to, tell what movies left that mark on you.

Twilight on the Tavern Lawn Presents Planet Zydeco

Twilight Music begins its 11th annual Twilight On The Tavern Lawn series of folk, world beat, rock, jazz, zydeco, Celtic, swing, blues and bluegrass summer concerts on Sunday, June 2 with Planet Zydeco.  The seven concert series continues every other Sunday through August 25. All concerts begin at 5:30 pm in downtown Putney on the Putney Tavern lawn (bring a lawn chair or blanket) or at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in case of rain. The series is sponsored by the Town of Putney, Putney Food Co-Op, Putney Paper Company, The Putney Inn, The Stockwell Brothers and many other Putney businesses and organizations.  The concerts are free to the public (donations are accepted) and food will be available.

Brooks Library Closed For Data Migration: Saturday June 1

The Library will close on Saturday, June 1, for final data migration to our new ILS (integrated library system) using an open source software called Koha. We will be joining with four other public libraries in Vermont for phase 1 of the Catamount Library Network, the beginning of a state-wide resource sharing network. The Strolling of the Heifers Slow Living Summit has announced that the plenary sessions featuring its most prominent speakers — including Diet for a Small Planet author Frances Moore Lappé — will be open to the public, with an optional donation of $10 requested at the door. Brattleboro Selectboard Vacancy – Appointment Process

Shortly after the Brattleboro Selectboard’s May 21, 2013 meeting, Ken Schneck formally notified the Town Clerk of his resignation from the Selectboard effective June 19, 2013.

The process for selecting a new Selectboard member is governed by Brattleboro’s Town Charter and the Selectboard’s Rules For Conduct Of Meetings And Hearings. Applicable language is quoted below.

Article IV, Section 4 of the Charter provides:
“When a member of the selectboard resigns . . . the office shall become vacant.”

The Charter continues that:
“When a vacancy occurs on the board, the remaining selectboard shall fill the vacancy by appointment until the next regularly scheduled election.”

Bianconi was one of three Vermont music teachers chosen to move on to the quarterfinals round from a total of 30,000 nominations submitted from all 50 states.

Mine was Plasticman. He could change himself into any shape imaginable, but you could always tell it was him because the new shape always retained his features: Hair, sunglasses, smile, red costume, striped belt and diamond belt buckle.

CHESTER/SAXTONS BEATS NEWPORT TO STAY ATOP CRVBL

In the only Connecticut River Valley Baseball League game over the Memorial Day weekend, the Chester/Saxtons Crush remained on top of the league standings with a 10 to 7 victory over the Newport Polar Bears at Vermont Academy.

Four of the league’s eight teams are in action next Sunday, June 2. Newport hosts the Keene Black Dawgs at 11:00 a.m. at Bates Memorial Field, while the Brattleboro River Rats take on the Sunapee Old Lakers at Dummerston Field in a 1:00 p.m. game. Spiritually-Centered Parenting Group

A new group for parents of babies and young children will begin to meet Tuesdays, from 11am-12pm, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 16 Bradley Avenue, Brattleboro.

The group begins meeting on Tuesday, June 4th. The purpose of the group is to connect parents to a greater purpose through reading, discussion and play. This group is open to all faith traditions and philosophical backgrounds. It is a chance for parents of young children to support one another AND a chance for children to play together.
