Recently, The University of Brattleboro made two failed attempts at foisting hoaxes on the public.
The first was a spectacular failure. We attempted the largest UFAUX launch in the history of the University. Sadly, the result, while large in scale, fell far short of our hopes. The result was news stories such as the following. . .

The 24 million dollar renovation of Brattleboro’s Brooks House will be celebrated on October 3 at 5p in the Brooks House Atrium in downtown Brattleboro. The Honorable Peter Shumlin, Governor of Vermont will be in attendance, along with Brooks House Development consisting of local businessmen Bob Stevens, Craig Miskovich, Ben Taggard, Pete Richards and Drew Richards.
A fire gutted the historic building, formerly a hotel, in April 2011. A few months later Tropical Storm Irene slammed the downtown area, causing significant flooding. Since that summer, the block-long Brooks House in the middle of Main Street has been boarded up and surrounded by tarps and scaffolding. A group of local businessmen and developers, formed to purchase and renovate it.

The Wilmington Trails Committee is hosting a trail event Saturday, September 27th (Rain date September 28th). The hike will be two of Wilmington’s newer trails: The Shearer Hill Trail and the Raponda Primitive Trail.
Everyone is invited to meet at 10 AM at the entrance to the Shearer Hill Trail, which is at the field on the left hand side of Shearer Hill Road in Wilmington just before you come to the Marlboro Town Line which is at the intersection of Grant Road. You will see vehicles parked along the road. More information about the route will be provided once everyone gathers at the start. The hike will begin at 10:30am.
I-91
Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.
Route 30
The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Spring of 2016.
Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 will be reduced to a single lane intermittently both day and night, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.
Last night I was pounding on Lawrence Auclair’s door, begging him to open up. But open up he could not. I am sorry to say Lawrence Auclair has died. BURLINGTON, Vt., Sept. 23 – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today welcomed growing support for a tax on carbon emissions that cause global warming as the United Nations hosted a one-day summit on climate change.
The World Bank said Monday that 73 nations and some 1,000 companies will join forces to push for policies setting a price on carbon emissions to encourage a shift to cleaner energy technologies.
“It is extremely important that international support is building to put a price on carbon emissions that cause global warming,” said Sanders, a member of both the Senate environment and energy committees and the sponsor of legislation to tax carbon.

Brattleboro Film Festival Advisory Board member Tim Metcalfe and journalist Tom Bedell will host post-screening discussions in the library’s Meeting Room covering a wide range of topics related to the screwball comedy era, filmmaking and Hollywood trivia in general.

BURLINGTON, Vt., Sept. 22 – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today applauded the more than 1,000 Vermonters who were among 400,000 demonstrators at the People’s Climate March in New York on Sunday.
“Vermonters from across the state marched in New York City because they understand that climate change is the greatest environmental crisis facing our planet. They know that the United States and other countries must take bold action now to reduce carbon emissions and protect our planet for our children and grandchildren,” Sanders said.

No, it is worse than being woman haters. This appears to be criminal money laundering. Governor Peter Shumlin signed a budget bill giving taxpayer dollars to VPR, Vermont Public Radio. He also did this in past years. VPR, Vermont Public Radio, refused to allow Ms. Cris Ericson, a woman, to participate in the general election governor candidate debates on VPR.

On the first birthday of Earth Day, April 22, 1970, more than a million people marched up Fifth Avenue to Sheep’s Meadow in Central Park to celebrate the day’s events on an unprecedented scale.Beginning September 21, 2014, just days before the United Nations Climate Summit convenes in New York City, nearly 3,000 climate events are taking place around the globe. The two mile procession of the crowds assembled in Manhattan held a moment of silence “to honor the victims” of climate change.
Unfortunately, the UN summit assuredly will result in “treaties” of the participating nations, not the concerns of the people. It is the 2015 Climate Change Conference in Paris, France where “leaders are hoping to stamp out a binding agreement.”
It’s Source-to-Sea Clean-up season!
The Southeastern Vermont Watershed Alliance (SeVWA) will partner with the Connecticut River Watershed Council (CRWC) in the annual Source-to-Sea Clean-up along our local waterways that feed the Connecticut River – and we hope that you will join us!
On Saturday, September 27th at 9 AM we will meet as a group at the Dummerston covered bridge parking lot on Route 30. Clean-up efforts will begin at the covered bridge and then participants will organize into teams to clean-up at the several sites along the West River between Brattleboro and Newfane. We will be cleaning-up on land, not on the water – so boats will not be needed. The clean-up session will end by noon.
