Wendy Harrison of Brattleboro has announced that she is a candidate for one of the two soon-to-be-vacant Windham County State Senator seats. She is running as a Democrat in the August 9 primary.
Harrison has 30+ years of local government experience and a passion for working together with everyone in the community to address challenges and seize opportunities.
“We can solve our problems from the ground up, as long as the process is inclusive,” Harrison said. “I am committed to identifying barriers and developing solutions that empower individuals. This benefits us all.”
Bellows Falls, VT (May 3, 2022)—Today, Bellows Falls designates the month of May as “May, Art Month in Bellows Falls,” a town-wide celebration to build awareness and appreciation of the arts and businesses throughout the town from May 9 through Memorial Day Weekend. May, Art Month in Bellows Falls will highlight the arts and the cultural community, as well as the entire town including local businesses, creative entrepreneurs, and artists.
“We will be highlighting artists, events, shops, and restaurants that contribute year-round to the vital and cultural richness and economic stability of the community,” says Robert McBride, founder, and director of The Rockingham Arts & Museum Project (RAMP).
The Town of Brattleboro is seeking a Lister, to be appointed by the Select Board to serve the remainder of a one year term until March 7, 2023, at which time the candidate can run to be elected for a 2 year term.
The candidate must be a registered voter of Brattleboro, understand appraisal methods and property assessment administration in Vermont, be detailed oriented, be interested and dedicated to the job responsibilities, have knowledge of the town, and able to work collaboratively with others. Real Estate knowledge preferred but not required.
There is something programmed into the human psyche that hopes for a better world than the one we have. Hope is important.
The problem is that what some people think makes a better world can be at odds with what others think. That is the world as it is.
When the pandemic unfolded it looked as though the leaders in this country were finally beginning to understand how dysfunctional our health care non-system is. It became clear that those at the lower end of the economic ladder did not have access to the same level of health care as those with more resources.
Members of the public scolded the Brattleboro Selectboard again for poor communication regarding their recent EMS decision. After, the board discussed removing some mentions of transparency and openness from their goals while patting themselves on the back for already having an open and transparent process.
They discussed other goals, then heard presentations about some exciting, possibly large housing projects going through the planning process. They also discussed improving the parklet program.
The Town of Brattleboro is undergoing a Stormwater Master Planning Process to develop strategies for design, funding, and implementation of stormwater best management practices. The project team, led by Watershed Consulting Associates, invites you to learn more about stormwater issues and possibilities in Brattleboro and give your feedback on priorities and concerns. There will be a meeting held on Wednesday, May 4th from 2:00 to 3:00pm via Zoom.

Need an excuse to be lazy for a month? I have one for you. No Mow May.
It started in England and is a movement to NOT mow lawns in May, to let dandelions, violets and other plant life have a chance to feed some bees.
Join writer, humorist and furniture maker Tom Bodett for a fun, collaborative workshop making flower presses.
Tom has designed a workshop format in which participants get to practice their woodworking tool skills by using them in a repetitive fashion. Together, the workshop participants will make twenty 5 1/2″ x 11″ flower presses. Each participant will take home 2 presses – just in time for spring and summer blooms.
Should the Harris Lot be developed by a private contractor? The Brattleboro Selectboard will discuss it at their next regular meeting.
There will also be a discussion about expanding a parklet program, a discussion about the Prouty-Delta Development initiative, discussion and possible apoproval of selectboard goals, and more. You can bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation.
