Speak-Out: Celebrate the Life and Work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join us and Brattleboro Solidarity at 3:30 pm on Saturday, January 19th,as we honor the life and work ofDr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the third annual Speak-Out event!
 During this FREE event, Actor David Millswill embark on an engaging, dramatic presentation through the journey ofDr. King, as he transforms from his early uncertainties about Civil Rights into the historic and monumental figure he became. 

The program will highlight Dr. King’s, Letter from a Birmingham Jail, I Have a Dream, Promised Land, If I had Sneezed, and Early Days.  Mr. Mills’ stirring presentation will take a look at both the public figure and the private man.


Vermont Jazz Center Presents: Helen Sung’s “Sung With Words”

The Vermont Jazz Center welcomes Helen Sung and celebrates her Chamber Music America sponsored project, “Sung With Words” on Saturday, January 19th at 8:00 PM at the Vermont Jazz Center.  The pianist/composer will present a new body of work that embodies the alliance of poetry and jazz and then takes it to new places. The performers in the octet are Helen Sung (piano and composition), Jason Palmer (trumpet), John Ellis (woodwinds), Carolyn Leonhart and Alina Engibaryan (Vocals), David Wong (bass), Kush Abadey (drums) and Felipe Fournier (percussion).

After listening to Trump’s speech on immigration on Monday night and the Democrats’ response to it, I got to wondering what a humane and effective immigration policy might be. Effects of Government Shutdown on 3SquaresVT Benefits

Hunger Free Vermont has issued this information. If you are applying or recertifying, documentation has to be in by Jan. 15 in order to get February benefits.

Because of the government shutdown, Vermont’s Department for Children and Families (DCF) will be issuing February 3SquaresVT benefits early, on January 20th. These benefits will be for the entire month of February, so it is important that participants budget accordingly.


PAYT Bags Ink Coming Off

Has anyone else found that the ink on the purple PAYT bags is coming off on your hands? I bought some at Hannafords recently and noticed my hands were black after taking out the trash. I took a close look at the bags and the ink is visibly falling off.

Trump on the Couch

In 2005, Justin Frank, M.D., a psychiatrist , wrote a book “Bush on the Couch” in which he provided keen insights into the president’s mode of thinking-or not thinking.

Commenting on “W”, Dr. Frank noted we are “dealing with a potentially cornered man [who] could lash out, and it is possible that the best way would be to bomb Iran…. Whatever the root causes of Bush’s pathology, we have a dangerous man running things…grandiose and unchecked.”

NOTICE is hereby given that the Brattleboro Town and Town School District Auditors’ Reports for fiscal year ending June 30, 2018, are available upon request and may be picked up at the Brattleboro Town Clerk’s office, 230 Main Street, Brattleboro, Vermont. 

The Auditors’ Reports will also be available as part of the Town and School District Annual Report which will be available at the Town Clerk’s office no later than February 22, 2019. 


Brooks Memorial Library Seeks Trustees

The Board of Library Trustees of Brooks Memorial Library seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated library user to fill an open position on the Board.  

Candidates for this position should have an interest in maintaining a strong and visionary library in Town.  Trustees must be residents of Brattleboro.

The Board, which numbers nine trustees, meets at the Library from 4:45 p.m. to 6:45PM on the second Tuesday of the month.  Members are asked to chair or serve on two or more committees that convene as needed.


Newfane History Survey

The Moore Free Library and Windham County Historical Society are looking into creating a program to record, preserve, and share people’s stories about Newfane.

Answering these few questions will help give us direction as we shape the project.
