Mini Antiques Roadshow Live in West Brattleboro

Brattleboro Area Jewish Community’s own
mini-version of “The Antiques Roadshow” will appear live on Sunday
afternoon, June 28th from 1:00 to 4:00 at their synagogue located at 151
Greenleaf Street in West Brattleboro. 

BAJC is hosting an appraisal day with
four experienced appraisers present to evaluate and assess antiques,
collectibles and memorabilia, including books, documents, sterling silver,
glass and art glass, china and pottery, fine art and signed prints, musical
instruments, records and entertainment memorabilia, jewelry, paper documents
and ephemera, small furniture, tchotchkes, and much more – but please,  no firearms, knives, ammunition, or other
weaponry are allowed, and no large and bulky furniture. 

Pet Rabbit Found on Cedar St

Remember Richard Pryor? He grew up in a brothel, was expelled from school, worked the comedy clubs, and ended up one of the most successful comedy writers and stars of the 70’s and 80’s. Go figure.

Missing Cat – Oak Street Area

My beloved Maine Coon cat, Sava, and has been missing from my Oak Street apartment since Wednesday evening. Thought he was just hiding- he was stressed out from a vet visit. We have torn the house, attic and neighboring yards apart with no sight of him.

He is big- 19 lbs. Grey, black and tan. He has a “lion cut”. Not an outdoor cat so he will be terrified and possibly aggressive.

Next WBA Meeting Scheduled for Thursday, June 11

The next monthly meeting of the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will be held at the Hayes Court Community Room on Garfield Drive on Thursday, June 11th at 6:00 PM. After a review of the treasury the group will revisit their recent successful Chicken Barbecue a couple of weekends ago. They will also discuss details regarding the joint mixer on Thursday, July 16th with the Brattleboro Chamber of Commerce, scheduled again this year at the New England House

Vermont Jazz Center Presents: Eugene Uman’s Convergence Project

Composer and pianist Eugene Uman and his Convergence Project returns for his seventh annual Vermont Jazz Center concert with a special night of high-energy original jazz compositions based on traditional Colombian music on Saturday, June 6th at 8 PM. Other members of the Convergence Project Joining Uman will be Michael Zsoldos, on saxophone, Jeff Galindo on trombone, Stomu Takeishi on electric bass, Satoshi Takeishi on drums and Adam O’Farrill on trumpet, who was the third place winner in this year’s Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition.

BMH Announces 2015 Employees of the Year

To cap off a week’s worth of employee recognition events in celebration of National Hospital Week, Steve Gordon, President and CEO of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital invited all hospital staff to join him for an ice cream social where he announced BMH’s 2015 Employees of the Year.

Departing from BMH’s tradition of naming one employee for the honor each year, two employees were named for 2015. According to Gordon, “Their nominations from colleagues described qualities we all appreciate in our co-workers and to which we should aspire ourselves,”

Described as “positive, helpful, knowledgeable, dedicated, caring and skilled,” the two award winners were celebrated for their commitment to patient care and exceptional standards of professionalism.

Unbeknownst to science until relatively recently, the ingredients for making the soup of life were brewed elsewhere, not here on Earth. In the beginning of our solar system this “third rock from the sun” was not yet claimed by all living things.It was barren and in upheaval, withstanding violent geologic forces that evolved from a gaseous formation which struggled to solidify itself. Of all the planetary ‘bodies’ in due course that locked into orbital patterns around the immense gravity of the sun, this crusty, molten body assumed a special place in its elliptical orbital radius around this new sun and its recent origin of a complement of planetary complexes.

VFW Annual Family Outing

The Brattleboro VFW Post #1034 will be hosting their annual family outing Sunday, July 26th. A $25 ticket will enter you for a chance to win money, with a grand prize of $1000. The meal will be grilled steak, baked potato, corn on the cob, and a roll. The $25 cost will also cover entry to the dance featuring the Colt 45 Band.

For $12, you get a meal and entry to the dance. A $5 charge will be offered for those wanting to enter the dance only. Burgers and hot dogs will also be for sale.
