A COVID Christmas Anti-Viral Holiday Special

I promised you a new holiday treat for this year, and here it is: A COVID Christmas Anti-Viral Holiday Special.     It is a super cute animated Christmas story made especially for a special year, featuring a masked snowman, masked singers, socially-distanced Santa, toy shopping, Mom, and a decorated tree by a fire. And lots of mask jokes.

I didn’t set out to make a new holiday special. I was working on some Christmas card ideas and Lise saw what I was doing and suggested they might make for some nice animation. That got me thinking, and before long I was able to string together a series of card ideas into a parody of a couple of my favorite holiday films.

50th Annual Community Messiah Sing Is Indeed Cancelled, As Well As FOMAG’s Christmas at Christ Church

Friends of Music at Guilford regretfully makes official the already-obvious announcement of the cancellation of its annual Messiah Sing and Christmas at Christ Church concerts due to the COVID pandemic.

This year would have been the 50th Annual Community Messiah Sing at Centre Congregational Church with all door donations going to Groundworks to help the homeless and hungry. The whole church, even balconies, is packed with singers enthusiastically joining in the choruses, some bringing their own well-worn scores, others borrowing from FOMAG’s collection; all accompanied by Centre Church’s excellent organ, while an ensemble of soloists perform the arias and recitatives.

It’s back. The annual tradition has not yet ended, though the most recent computers and browsers might have trouble as Flash really is coming to an end. That makes this a special gift for people who don’t upgrade!

The iBrattleboro Christmas Calendar  is a daily animated look at downtown Brattleboro, with new bits of local history thrown in every day. Follow along as the scene builds up, and keep a special eye out on the 24th.

Virtual Putney Craft Tour

Shop the Annual Putney Craft Tour Collection from the comfort of your home: 19 Artisans…3 Days Glass blowers, Potters, Jewelers, Weavers, Painters, Woodworkers – even Artisan Cheesemakers, and Winemakers. Crafters will open their virtual studio doors, offering video demonstrations, personal shopping experiences and studio visits via Zoom. Some artists are scheduling in person studio visits or virtual video chats by appointment. Shops open: Fri, Nov 27 at 10:00 a.m. sharp through Sun, Nov 29 at 5:00 p.m. In the meantime, shoppers are free to browse the site and discover more about Vermont’s most accomplished artisans.

BCTV Announces Winners of the 2020 Producer Awards

BRATTLEBORO, VT—Brattleboro Community Television announces its producer award winners for 2020. BCTV’s annual producer awards ceremony will be held virtually on Wednesday, December 9 at 6:30 PM. 

The following organizations and individuals will be recognized for their achievements during the past year:

Community Partner Award: Next Stage Arts

Next Stage Arts in Putney partnered with BCTV to create and share a variety of excellent local content including “Fables Storytelling,” “The Quarantine Sessions,” “Cooped-Up Kids,” “Votes for All Women,” and “Rigged: A Voter Suppression Panel.” In August, Keith Marks of Next Stage organized a live multi-venue arts performance, “Arts Unite Windham,” to raise funds for local social justice organizations and to bring attention to arts venues that had been shut down for months. BCTV provided the technical backbone of this 4-hour live stream from 5 venues that ultimately raised $8000.

Brattleboro Women’s Chorus Hosts 25th Fall (Virtual) Concert

The Brattleboro Women’s Chorus will perform their 25th annual fall “singalong concert” via Zoom this Sunday, November 22 at 4 pm.

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, the chorus will be singing songs about rivers, welcoming the ancestors & healing, led by Director Becky Graber. Some of the songs are very easy to join along with, and Becky will teach a song or two to all. Singers will be muted, though we will hear harmonized vocal tracks, so feel free to sing along in the comfort of your homes, if you wish.
