Mother’s Day Brunch in Guilford

Broad Brook Grange will present its 22nd annual Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 13, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Broad Brook Community Center in Guilford.

 The all-you-can-eat brunch features eggs and omelettes, any style, made to order. Also on the menu are pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon and home fries, with Guilford maple syrup. Other treats include home-baked coffee cakes and other baked goods, fresh fruit salad, and bread for toasting. A selection of juices will be available, along with coffee, teas and milk.

Arrrgh! I need to complain about the Senate Intelligence preliminary report on “Russian Targeting” and the inevitable media coverage to follow.

If you read the official narrative, it sounds ominous. Russians targeted U.S. election systems. Oooh, scary.

“Russian actors scanned databases for vulnerabilities, attempted intrusions, and in a small number of cases successfully penetrated a voter registration database.”

That sounds just horrible, doesn’t it? What does it mean?

She won the IPPY Bronze Medal for Regional Memoir/Autobiography;and she was a finalist for ForeWord Review’s Book of the Year for Memoir/Autobiography, and also for the USA Best Book Award for Memoir/Autobiography. She received an honorable mention at the New England Book Festival for Memoir/Autobiography.

Charlotte Spins Her Web Again in Saxtons River

Performances of Joseph Robinette’s adaptation will be Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m.

April Judd & Bev Larson Art Show Opens Sat., May 12

West Brattleboro – A two-woman show of paintings and sculpture by April Judd and Bev Larson has recently been installed in the foyer and other gallery spaces at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. While each artist was featured in group shows during college and in their respective home states, this first major gallery show for them both continues through June 30.

The Arts Committee at All Souls invites the public to meet the artists at an opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. This gathering gives viewers a chance to enjoy both savory and sweet refreshments while discussing the creative process with Judd and Larson, who regard this collection as a history of their 13-year journey together. Both emerging artists, they fell in love with the unique and beautiful light and landscapes of Guilford, Vt., where they live and work as the Home Gnomes.

Whetstone Walk-About + Open House

On Friday, May 18 the community is invited to explore the floodplain restoration of a 12-acre parcel of land along the Whetstone Brook at a pair of events. At 5:15 P.M., the Brattleboro Conservation Commission and Vermont River Conservancy will host a site walk of the property which is located at 250 Birge Street in Brattleboro. The public is invited to walk the site and learn more about the floodplain restoration project and site conditions from Sue Fillion, Brattleboro Town Planner and Steve Libby, Executive Director at the Vermont River Conservancy.

Hamilton Road Closing For Excavation

Hamilton Road will be closed on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This closure will be weather permitting. The road will be closed between house # 146 Hamilton Rd and #311 Hamilton Rd to replace culverts. No through traffic will be allowed as the Highway Division will be excavating across the street to install the culverts.

I saw this article the other day and had to laugh. Carmar Denim just announced the “extreme cut out jeans”. It sells for $168 and is of course sold out. $168 is 123 pounds in English currency. . This story was posted on 5/3 the 123rd day of the year. “Extreme cut out jeans”=247 in Reverse Ordinal (22+3+7+9+22+14+22=99(extreme) 24+6+7=37(cut) 12+6+7=25 (out) 17+22+26+13+8=86 (jeans)=247. 247 is 19 x 13.
