After spending some time with the dictionary trying to find the terms that best describe me, progressive, radical, activist, I find that I do not wear any of these hats well. My mission is awareness, critical thinking, free speech and some personal ownership for the world we live in. In fact I founded a corporation in 2010 called The Awareness Initiative Inc., to do exactly that.

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital official announced they have hired Bob Rovella to be the new Director of Finance.
Rovella joins BMH after serving as Director of Finance at Central Vermont Medical Center in Barre, Vermont. Previously, he has held similar positions at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Massachusetts and Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, New Hampshire. Rovella has an MBA from the UMASS Isenberg School of Business and a BS in Accounting and Business Administration from Connecticut State University.
The Town of Brattleboro has been notified by representatives of Bread Loaf Construction, working on behalf of Mesabi Inc, that the Harmony Lot underpass will be closed to public access on August 6, 2013 at 6:00am. The closing is necessary to maintain public safety during the yearlong redevelopment of the Brooks House. It is anticipated that the underpass will be closed for the duration of the project.

Vendor applications are now being accepted for the eighth season of the Winter Farmers’ Market which will again be held at the River Garden in the heart of Brattleboro, VT. Space for new vendors is limited but interested parties are encouraged to submit an application prior to the September 1 deadline.
The Winter Market opens on November 2 for the 2013/2014 season and will be open every Saturday through March 29, 2014 for a total of 22 markets. The regular market hours for the Winter Farmers’ Market will be 10 am to 2 pm with hours extended to 3 pm for the markets between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

PRESS RELEASE On July 15, 2013 at 3:16am the Brattleboro Fire and Police Departments responded to 68 Birge St for a vehicle fire. After conducting an investigation it was deemed that this fire was an act of arson.

Saturday, August 3rd, the Brattleboro Farmers’ Market hosts free live music by the Zora Quartet, playing Bosnian music from 11am to 1pm. Also at market this week, local herbalist Heidy Adams leads a free educational wild and medicinal plant walk. Participants are asked to meet at 11am at the center kiosk of the market and will walk the market grounds.
The height of summer bounty is rolling in from local farms and growers! Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and AARP are co-sponsoring a Driver Safety program on Saturday, August 24 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Brew Barry Conference Room.
This driver’s refresher course is for people ages 55 and over and is designed to provide awareness of aging as it affects driving. The class covers normal physical changes associated with aging, provides practical techniques to compensate and review “rules of the road” with an emphasis on defensive driving practices.

BURLINGTON, Vt., July 28 – Saying that “it’s time for new leadership at the Federal Reserve and a new approach to our troubled economy,” U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today urged President Obama to appoint a new central bank chairman who will “put the needs of the disappearing middle class ahead of the interests of Wall Street and the wealthy few.”
Sanders said Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz or former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich would be “excellent candidates” to replace Chairman Ben Bernanke when his term ends next January 31.
