Like Floyd Vietnamese Were Victims of a “Flourishing US Culture of Excessive Force Racism & Impunity”

The 27 $million to the family of George Floyd answering allegations that his civil rights were violated within a flourishing American culture of excessive force, racism and impunity by implication puts protective value on all lives in the USA. Remaining valueless are the millions of lives taken overseas by Americans, including by Black GIs who afterward return home to face mortal racist danger themselves.

BRATTLEBORO:   The Atrium Hallway Gallery in the Brooks House has a fresh new look for spring, with an exhibit spotlighting the artwork of four members of Brattleboro-West Arts.

Titled New Passage, the ongoing show’s latest offerings demonstrate the diverse talents of BWA members, from Kay Curtis’s bright and active Swing Dance series of drypoint monoprints to Bobbi Angell’s detailed and elegant botanicals to Sharon Myers’s handsome prints using lingerie to Lesley Heathcote’s closely observed and beautifully rendered animal and bird pastels.

Melrose Street Closure

On Friday, April 2, Utilities Crews will be working to repair a water main on Melrose St between the intersection with Western Ave and 39 Melrose ST.  The work will begin at 7:00 am.  The road will remain closed through Tuesday, April 6.   

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during this time period.

A New Effort To Lower Prescription Drug Prices

Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced two bills in the Senate that would lower the cost of prescription drugs. Here’s a part of the press release his office issued on March 23. “Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Reps. Ro Khanna, (D-Calif.), Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), and Cori Bush (D-Mo.), along with more than two dozen colleagues, on Tuesday introduced sweeping legislation to drastically reduce the cost of prescription drugs in the United States. The package of bills includes: The Prescription Drug Price Relief Act to peg the price of prescription drugs in the United States to the median price in Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan; The Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Act to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate lower prices for prescription drugs under Medicare Part D; and The Affordable and Safe Prescription Drug Importation Act to allow patients, pharmacists and wholesalers to import safe, affordable medicine from Canada and other major countries.

At Representative Town Meeting this year, scheduled for March 20, 2021, the body voted through Australian Ballot on Article 11:

“To see if the Town will authorize the capital improvement as the Water Treatment Plant Reconstruction Project, at anestimated cost of twelve million, five hundred thousand dollars ($12,500,000) and authorize the issuance ofnotes and/or bonds in the aggregate principal amount not to exceed twelve million, five hundred thousand dollars ($12,500,000) at a rate of interest not to exceed five percent (5%) per annum and for a term not to exceed thirty (30) years to pay to that extent the cost of said public improvement.  The vote on this article shall be by Australian ballot as required by law. The question to be voted upon is as follows:

White Supremacy Culture –  What It Is And What To Do About It

Racism often refers to acts of overt, intentional prejudice and a social order that debases people of color while glorifying whiteness. But white supremacy is a systemic and structural phenomenon woven throughout our culture—rather than just the work of racist individuals who intentionally and maliciously discriminate. Our institutions and social practices themselves prop up white advantage and protect white communities, while making communities of color vulnerable to exploitation, domination, and violence.

I received a flyer in the mail from Consolidated.com that says they will be offering fiber internet connections in Brattleboro soon.  I found a couple stories on iBrattleboro that do not paint Consolidated in the best light and which suggest Consolidated has been offering internet services in Brattleboro already for some time:
