BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — Some of the world’s best up-and-coming ski jumpers are set to fly at New England’s only Olympic-size venue Feb. 18 and 19 during the annual Harris Hill tournament in Brattleboro, Vt.

The nearly century-old competition will feature athletes from North America and Europe leaping off a 90-meter hill that’s one of just six of its size in the country.

Since its start in 1922, the annual event attracts several thousand spectators who watch jumpers shoot at speeds of 60 mph before soaring more than 300 feet in the air.

The Body Portrait Project is a series of interviews with women who don’t fit the traditional model of beauty. It offers an opportunity for women to tell their stories and talk about how they view their bodies; how those views have impacted their lives and to celebrate all the incredible things our bodies can do – regardless of age or size.

Do you know that 67.8% of all women in the United States are considered “plus size”? Half of those women are 50 years old and older. Women that fall into those categories- over 50 and plus size- are invisible in society and certainly in the fashion/media worlds. Being able to put a voice and a face to those hundreds of thousands of women is an important step not only in the battle for equality in all areas but in the very necessary movement to empower women to embrace and appreciate their bodies and be more self confident and comfortable in their skin.

The annual #1lib1ref campaign () asks every librarian and information seeker to learn how to add a reference to Wikipedia, to help ensure that the facts on the website are backed by reliable research.

Brattleboro Selectboard Special Meeting Notes – Town Meeting Warnings, Drinking Event Approved

The FY18 municipal budget and related issues have been written up in the form of official meeting warnings, and have been approved by the Brattleboro Selectboard. This wraps up their recent FY18 budget discussions and prepares the town for March voting.

The board also approved of a special event permit for a downtown drinking and shopping event, learned of a farm expansion, and voted to send Peter Elwell to a meeting.

Town of Brattleboro Notice of Availability of Auditors’ Reports

NOTICE is hereby given that the Brattleboro Town and Town School District Auditors’ Reports for fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, are available upon request and may be picked up at the Brattleboro Town Clerk’s office, 230 Main Street, Brattleboro, Vermont.

The Auditors’ Reports will also be available as part of the Town and School District Annual Report which will be available at the Town Clerk’s office no later than February 24, 2017.

Based on vote at Representative Town Meeting, March 20, 2010, the Town will no longer mail the Auditors’ Reports to all voters of the Town.

I am hoping our brand spanking new President, Donald Trump, will create a White House version of “The Apprentice”, something like “Live at the White House” where President Donald Trump could fire his Chief of Staff frequently for unethical conduct or mis-spelling errors, or for coming back from lunch break reeking of marijuana smoke, even though marijuana is legal in Washington, D.C. – or will Donald Trump decide to allow employees of the White House to smoke a toke on lunch break? We need to know!

President Donald Trump could fire the Chef and Housekeeper as well, every time a tourist on the White House Tour stumbles upon one of those cockroaches the tourists laugh at, or silently shriek when they see them crawling, because their own homes have fewer pests.
