Next Stage Arts Project presents an evening Americana music and art with StompBox Trio and Pumpkintown at Next Stage on Saturday, November 2 at 7:30 pm.

StompBoxTrio is a Western Massachusetts-based band that features Evelyn Harris (vocals, percussion), John Cabán (“Dobro” steel guitar, stompbox) and David Rodriguez (wood bass, foot tambourine). The trio reaches deep into the wellspring of vintage American blues, funk and soul to bring folks a hip-shaking, foot-stomping great time.

Western Avenue Fire – Press Release

At 7:38am Central Dispatch received a call reporting smoke in the building at 929 Western Ave. A 1stalarm assignment consisting of Eng 2, Eng 4, Ladder 1 and Car 1 & 2 responded. At 7:41am Eng 4 reported there had been a fire in the bathroom of Apt 202 which was out, and they had a burn victim and requested an ambulance.

Beware of Medicare Advantage

Anyone who is 65 years or older is most likely receiving notices about changing their Medicare plan by postal mail, e-mail or through a variety of other media. Medicare open enrollment period is from October 15 to December 7 and anyone enrolled in either traditional Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan can switch coverage. New coverage would begin on January 1, 2020.

It is important to understand the history of the Medicare Advantage program. In 2003 President Bush signed into law changes to the Medicare program that included the creation of Part D Medicare which turned out to be a financial bonus for American pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Rotary members in Brattleboro are taking action on World Polio Day to raise awareness, funds, and support to end polio, a vaccine-preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.


The End Of America + Oshima Brothers at Stage 33 Live in Bellows Falls, Saturday November 2

BELLOWS FALLS – The End Of America returns to Stage 33 Live on Saturday, November 2, co-headlining with Oshima Brothers. This is the first show of an Eastern US tour by the two bands.

The End Of America was voted Favorite New Artist at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and won the Emerging Artist Showcase at Falcon Ridge, returning the next year as that festival’s Most Wanted band. Beck invited them to play his Song Reader album release show. David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash tweeted, “they sound great.”


NEYT Fun and Funny Family Friendly Show!

New England Youth Theatre proudly presents, “Clown TV!” A play written and directed by NEYT alum Doran Hamm, aided by Amy Majer, Putnam Smith, and all of the young comedians, “Clown TV! “ is uproarious fun for the whole family. 

“My favorite part of the process is the collaboration with the kids. We had this concept of clown tv, which is a rich field to plant in,” says Hamm. “We compiled a bunch of different ideas, we all voted, and democratically chose the top nine options to create scene work in.”


Marlboro Road Water Service Interruptions

 The DPW Utilities crew is working to correct a leak on a 16” water valve located on Marlboro Rd. Service interruptions were expected and warned for yesterday. Unanticipated circumstances will result in water service interruption today, October 22nd between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The area of water service interruption will be between #254 and #1205 Marlboro Rd. 

Water service interruptions should be expected between the hours of 8 A.M. and 3 P.M. 


Free Talk and Open House at Our Energy Efficient Straw Bale Home on Saturday

Over the last five years or so – through open houses, tours, and educational events – hundreds of members of the Brattleboro Community have visited our home under construction in West Brattleboro. We are once again opening it to the public in hopes of sharing our journey, learning from visitors and sharing what we know about local and natural materials, energy-efficient building practices, and working in the building field.
