Does anybody have a shrub recommendation for us?
Here’s what we need:
a shrub/bush that will be about 6′-8′ and dense (a good natural screen) and tough and/or resilient to having snow sliding off a roof onto it.
We’ve considered and rejected privet, beauty bush and forsythia.
Any ideas?

The Windham Foundation has awarded Vermont Partnership for Fairness and Diversity a $5,000 grant to support its 2nd Annual Vermont Vision for a Multicultural Future Conference. The conference will be held November 7th – 8th, 2013 at the Grand Summit Hotel at the Mount Snow Resort in Dover, Vermont.
The Vermont Vision conference allows leaders from different sectors to generate actionable ideas in a participant-driven process. The conference’s unique format, facilitated by Adrian Segar, engages participants in deciding what is discussed and presented, by whom, when and how.
Can anyone comment on what they beleive to be the best choice(s) for a PC destop?
Are there differences between brands, and what would make one a better choice than another.

Around the world, humans are rediscovering aquaponics, an ancient way of cultivating fruits, vegetables, and fish together in closed systems that recycle water and nutrients. One of these humans, Mark Crowther, lives in West Brattleboro, and has constructed “barrelponic” systems in which he has been growing cold weather crops year-round in his home, with the help of a school of minnows.
Mark Crowther would like to share what he has learned with you. During this introductory presentation, Mark will talk about the history of aquaponics, the environmental benefits, and the basics of creating a system that works. Aquaponics may be a way to greatly increase the amount of food that can be produced locally, especially during cold months.
Released in 1976, this concert film was taped over several days in 1973. Aside from the concert footage itself taped at Madison Square Garden in three nights, it features several dream sequences of the band manager (Peter Grant) as a gangster and the band members in their individual fantasy vignettes, It runs just over 2 1/4 hours.
This was the tour in which nearly a quarter-million dollars was stolen from their hotel’s safe deposit box and there’s some footage of that as well. It’s even a good portrait of NYC in the early 1970s. Enjoy.
F Troop in the People’s Republic of Vermont
Yup, I was born in Vermont, but through no fault of my own, I wound up living in the People’s Republic of Vermont. As that poet said, “Brattleboro is a socialist experiment gone deeply awry.” I would add, it is a socialist experiment, greased with payola, and incompetency that makes the F Troop look like an efficient organization.
At last…Brattleboro Cheese and Cafe is opening today for business!! It’s been a long,sad wait for all the cheese lovers in town but at 11 AM today we can go to their gorgeous new shop at 39 Main Street and indulge ourselves. Welcome back, Brattleboro Cheese!!

“As I drive around town, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a growing number of vehicles that have very faded Vermont license plates. They are so faded that you can’t possibly read them. They seem to be more recent plates. The one I’ve had on my car for 15 years is still bright and readable. Are these plates made of some material that fades rather quickly in the sun maybe?
I just wondered if this is a problem for the police, who I would think would have considerable difficulty reading the plates. And would these drivers be able to get a newer copy of the same plate somehow?”
Regarding license plates, Vermont law section 511 of Chapter 7, Title 23 requires that, among other things, “The number plates shall be kept entirely unobscured, the numerals and the letters thereon shall be plainly legible at all times.”
Brattleboro Memorial Hospital announced it has received a grant from an anonymous foundation. This grant fully funds the training and implementation of the STAR Program into its Rehabilitation and Oncology Departments.
STAR (Survivorship Training and Rehab) is a national certification program developed by Massachusetts-based Oncology Rehab Partners, leading experts in the field of survivorship care. The program provides hospitals and health care providers with the tools and training needed to minimize the side effects of cancer treatment.
On May 11th, The Putney School students are available to help with yard and housework, such as raking, trimming, or painting. Money earned by Putney School students during the work day will support CHABHA, Children affected by HIV/AIDS organization in several ways including establishing a weaving workshop in Kigali. In July a group from Putney school will bring looms and yarns to Rwanda. They will teach young Rwandans to weave, giving them with a source of income to provide for their education and healthcare. Guns for Tots: Time to arm the Children?
It is absurd to think that we need to have armed guards in schools. A more pragmatic approach is to arm the children. From kindergarten to college, everyone is armed, from the tiny little cute derringers in the guise of a cell phone, to the backpack portable semi-automatic rifles, or the gym bag size to hold a few Berettas.
When, we Americans think of our proud tradition of gun ownership we recall Daniel Boone as a child killing a bear with a flintlock or Davie Crocket as a lad killing a mountain lion. Tupac Shakur who wasn’t afraid to face life with a gun in his hand, “No longer living in fear, my pistol close in hand.” If our heroic ancestors can kill these ferocious beasts, why can’t any child worth his salt — lock and load?
